dc.description.abstract | Tanzania is among the few countries in the world endowed with vast range of tourist attractions. Despite its impressive recent economic performance, Tanzania remains a poor country. The study was conducted to assess the contribution of tourism activities on community Household income in Moshi district. Specifically the study aimed at identifying types of tourism activities in the study area and determines income generated from non tourism activities. Furthermore, the study determined the contribution of tourism activities to community HH income. Data were collected from 120 respondents. Quantitative data were collected using questionnaires, while qualitative data were collected through Focus Group Discussion using checklist of questions. Quantitative data were analysed using SPSS computer software and “content analysis technique” was used to analyse qualitative data. The study identified different types of tourism activities in rural communities, their contribution on community HH income and effects of tourism activities to community development. The results indicate that contribution of tourism activities have significant effect to community HH Income whereby; p- value was 0.003. Also the result indicate that there is no significant differences between education and tourism activities this shows that education is not an important factor for someone to perform tourism activities and p value was 0.794. It was also found that: employment opportunities for rural communities were of low- cadres with less skilled staff and remuneration. Local people have complex livelihoods strategies which are affected by tourism in various ways; and there is a clear opportunity to have significantly their benefits from tourism. Thus, it was recommended that in order to increase tourism contribution on community HH income, there is a need for conducting training programmes that would ultimately provide chance for rural communities to be employediii in high cadres like wardens with high remuneration. Furthermore, rural communities should have considerable role in decision making; and the community to integrate its marketing and products strategies to take the best advantage of existing tourism opportunities | en_US |
