Research was undertaken to analyse production and marketing constraints limiting sunflower production in Dodoma region. Data were collected from a sample of 120 sunflower producers using structured questionnaire. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used to analyse the data. The results of the study show that production of sunflower was mainly constrained by high prices and unavailability of improved seeds, lack of access to credit and unfavourable weather condition. Likewise, marketing constraints mentioned most were low and unstable prices of unprocessed sunflower, lack of standards and grades, high uansn^rt cost to oil miils and -nerkets and poor access io market information. The gross margin analysis show that gross income gained from selling processed sunflower was much higher as compared to unprocessed one. Based on linear regression results, the study show that the ratio of acres put to sunflower, use of improved seed, and observed price of sunflower were the most important factors affecting sunflower production in the study area. Logistic regression show that distance to oil mills, amount of yield harvested and access to credit contributed positively and significantly to the probability of farmers to process sunflower. Generally, sunflower production and markets in the study area are inefficient thus, interventions should be aimed at addressing both sunflower production technological gaps and marketing problems. The study further suggested that although market opportunity and linkage are key issues for smallholder sunflower sub-sector development, support services in terms of accessing adequate land, organizing input supplies, provision of credit, extension and training services, production and entrepreneurial skills development are key elements for success and should receive due attention in order to improve sunflower production and marketing in Tanzania.en_US
