Abstract
Sustainability in development projects has been one of the most important challenges
facing communities in Tanzania who depend largely on such projects for their livelihood
in terms of social and economic improvements. This study assessed the contribution of
TASAF II poultry sub-project on livelihood in Temeke Municipality. Specifically, the
study identified TASAF II beneficiaries, assessed contribution of TASAF II poultry
projects on household income and determined factors influencing satisfaction of the
beneficiaries with TASAF II poultry production sub-project. Multistage sampling
technique and cross section research design were used in collecting primary data using
structured questionnaire from 120 respondents. Focus group were
used to collect
complementary information. The study findings of logistic regression indicated that the
satisfaction with TASAF II poultry production project was strongly influenced by marital
status and household size of the respondents (p < 0.01), but not by other factors such as
age, sex and education level. The alternative hypothesis that social economic factors
significantly determined satisfaction with TASAF II poultry production sub projects was
therefore accepted. The findings show that although TASAF II contribution was not
successful as far as poultry production is concerned, it contributed to the increase in
household assets by supporting the construction of poultry shelters which remained with
respondents as well as initial training in poultry keeping. However, the study could not
find the contribution of the project on household income. It is therefore recommended that
capacity building training programmes should be introduced to the local community so as ■
to ensure smooth implementations and sustainability of such projects in the future.
